🌿 Naturally Low Acid 🔬 Independently Lab-Tested 🌱 Original Heirloom Bean 🏔️ Highland Ethiopia, Grade 1

Coffee shouldn't upset your stomach. Kilan is naturally low in acid — and lab-tested, not just called 'clean.'

Nothing to Hide, Everything to Prove

A lot of brands just say 'lab tested' and stop there. They don't show you anything. Kilan is different. We believe in being open, so you don't have to just trust us, you can check it yourself. Our coffee is third-party tested for mold, toxins, metals, pesticides, and more.

Naturally High in Antioxidants

Ethiopian coffee beans naturally have a lot of antioxidants. This comes from the type of plant and where it grows — not something we added. We even test this. Antioxidant levels are part of our lab report too, so it's not just a guess.

Coffee from Ethiopia's Rich Arabica Heritage

Scientific research—including studies in Nature Genetics [1]—confirms that Ethiopian coffee originates from the natural Afromontane forest ecosystems where over 95% of the world's Arabica genetic diversity resides. Because the vast majority is grown by smallholder farmers using traditional agroforestry methods, these indigenous heirloom varieties remain non-GMO by nature and are naturally organic, relying on healthy forest canopies [2] and ecological predator balance [3] rather than synthetic pesticides or chemicals.

4

Careful Sourcing. Clear Testing.

We chose Grade 1 Ethiopian coffee for Kilan because we value the care behind these beans. In coffee production, ripe cherries are selected, then processed and dried; methods can vary. The dried beans are sorted and cleaned, with defective beans removed, before grading and quality checks ahead of roasting. As another part of our quality assurance, submitted samples of Kilan coffee are tested by a third party.

5

Roasted in Small Batches, Roast-Date on Every Bag

Every bag of Kilan is roasted in small batches and stamped with the real roast date — not pulled from a warehouse pallet that's been sitting around for months. You'll always know exactly how fresh your coffee is.

6

From Soil to Soul

Coffee is more than a drink. It begins in the soil, grows in the highlands of Ethiopia, and carries generations of family care into every cup. Kilan Coffee honors that journey with carefully selected, hand-picked beans, thoughtful roasting, and a commitment to quality from origin to brew.

Common Questions

Yes. Our coffee grows high up in the mountains of Ethiopia, and that's a big reason it's naturally low in acid. We don't just say this — we test it. pH is one of the things checked in our lab report.

Yes. Our coffee is checked by an independent, outside lab, every harvest season, for mold, toxins, metals, pesticides, and more. We're open about it — you'll find a link to the full report above, plus a breakdown by topic further down this page, once results are posted.

Our green coffee beans are USDA Certified Organic before we roast them. But our roasting building itself is not USDA Organic certified yet. That's why we say our coffee is "made from USDA Organic green beans," instead of calling the finished coffee itself "USDA Organic."

Most people start with our Medium Roast, called Balance. If you like a stronger cup, try our Dark Roast, called Bold. If you want espresso at home, try our Espresso Roast, called Heritage.
