Kilan Coffee Brewing Guides
From soil to soul — every cup of Kilan Coffee deserves to be brewed with intention. Follow these guides to unlock the full flavor of our Ethiopian single-origin coffees.
☕ Pour-Over
Best for: Ethiopian Sidama Natural — highlights floral and fruity notes
- Ratio: 1:15 (1g coffee to 15g water)
- Grind: Medium-fine
- Water temp: 200°F (93°C)
- Brew time: 3–4 minutes
- Rinse your filter with hot water and discard the rinse water.
- Add 20g of ground coffee to the filter.
- Pour 40g of water in a slow circle to bloom for 30 seconds.
- Continue pouring in slow, steady circles until you reach 300g total.
- Allow to drain fully and enjoy.
🫖 French Press
Best for: African Heritage Espresso — brings out bold, chocolatey depth
- Ratio: 1:12
- Grind: Coarse
- Water temp: 200°F (93°C)
- Brew time: 4 minutes
- Add 30g of coarsely ground coffee to your French press.
- Pour 360g of hot water evenly over the grounds.
- Stir gently, place the lid on (plunger up), and steep for 4 minutes.
- Press the plunger down slowly and pour immediately.
☕ Drip Coffee Maker
Best for: Everyday brewing — consistent and easy
- Ratio: 1:16
- Grind: Medium
- Water temp: Auto (most machines)
- Brew time: 5–6 minutes
- Use filtered water for the best taste.
- Add 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per 6 oz of water.
- Brew and enjoy fresh — avoid leaving coffee on the warming plate for more than 30 minutes.
🔥 Espresso
Best for: African Heritage Espresso — rich crema, intense flavor
- Ratio: 1:2 (18g coffee yields ~36g espresso)
- Grind: Fine
- Water temp: 197–205°F (92–96°C)
- Brew time: 25–30 seconds
- Grind 18g of coffee to a fine, even consistency.
- Tamp firmly and evenly at ~30 lbs of pressure.
- Pull your shot for 25–30 seconds targeting 36g of espresso.
- Adjust grind finer if too fast, coarser if too slow.
🧊 Cold Brew
Best for: Ethiopian Sidama Natural — smooth, sweet, and refreshing
- Ratio: 1:8
- Grind: Extra coarse
- Brew time: 12–24 hours (cold)
- Combine 60g of coarsely ground coffee with 480ml of cold filtered water.
- Stir, cover, and refrigerate for 12–24 hours.
- Strain through a fine mesh or coffee filter.
- Serve over ice, dilute to taste, and enjoy up to 2 weeks refrigerated.
Pro Tip: For the freshest cup, grind your beans just before brewing. Store your Kilan Coffee in an airtight container away from light and heat.
